Historical Significance

For centuries, Wales was divided into a number of kingdoms, each ruled by its own royal dynasty. Through alliances, inheritance, and conquest, powerful rulers emerged who sought to unite the Welsh people and preserve their independence.

Among the most celebrated were Rhodri Mawr, one of Wales' greatest early rulers, Hywel Dda, remembered for his legal reforms, and Llywelyn the Great, whose leadership strengthened the position of Wales among the kingdoms of Britain.

The story culminates with Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, known as Llywelyn the Last, whose death in 1282 marked the end of native Welsh rule. Following the conquest of Wales by Edward I, the title "Prince of Wales" was later adopted by the English Crown.

This family tree provides a fascinating insight into the rulers, dynasties, and traditions that helped shape the identity of Wales and whose legacy continues to endure today.
